sleepy sparrow

Nesting in a sunny nook on the Sakha Teatra fountain... (Yakutsk, Sept. 2010)

Oh, did I wake you with my camera-shutter? Let me pick you up & put you in my flannel pocket!
(Yakutsk, Sept. 2010)

It's getting colder in Yakutsk, down to about -20C now, and the cheeky little sparrows are getting spherical.

you are very welcome!

sweet little sparrows are everywhere here! hiding in all the nooks, scrabbling about all puffed up in the snow. today it was rather cold & one snuck into the grocery store to warm up! he flew around the wee shop a few times, perching on the cereal boxes, cheeping, before sneaking out again.

they are the most common bird here, & definitely the sassiest little ones. at the market stand where i go to buy bread & pirozhki, the lady always throws crusts out for them, a little ways away from the stand. but they still try to come perch up right on the stacks of loaves, to peck the seeds right off the crust!
